Kathryn Dalziel – classical and contemporary painter.
Kathryn studied Fine Art at university where she won two National design awards. Her passion for painting and classical portraiture led her to Florence to study the traditions of portraiture and she has worked for many years as a professional portrait painter. In 1996 Kathryn introduced equine portraits into her portfolio, as a horse lover it was a natural progression and her horse paintings are considered to be some of her best works. Using the sight-size method Kathryn’s paintings are close, life-like portrayels of the subject.
During her painting career Kathryn was selected as resident artist at the Spanish School of Riding in Vienna where she spent the summer sketching and painting the magical Lipizzaner horses in situ. Inspired by the movement and ability of these amazing horses she went on to visit the Lipizzaner stud at Piber in the Austrian mountains to paint the horses running free in their natural environment.
Recently Kathryn has written and illustrated the Questairo children’s book series which has been released as an iBook.. The main character of the series is a beautiful horse with magical powers. Some of the illustrations can be seen here, please take a look.
